Knowing Facts from Myths

There are several myths that have been perpetuated over the years. Some of these include:

  • Chocolates are bad for your health and you will put on weight if you eat chocolates.

  • Rice eaters become diabetics. You will definitely become obese if you eat rice.

  • Eating pasta is positively unhealthy. It only adds to your weight.

  • Don’t eat bread. It is fattening.

  • Butter is not good for you.

  • Stay away from ice creams if you know what is good for you.

Food Products Available Online

Today’s grocery stores offer a large number of food products online. These include fruits and vegetables as well as branded foods, grocery and staples besides imported and gourmet food products. Among all these food products there are those that have been maligned over the years such as those that have been mentioned above.

The truth is elsewhere, however!

The bottom line of course lies in moderation. There is no denying the fact that none of these myths is to be ignored altogether. But, so is it with everything in life. One cannot eat chocolates from morning till night without falling ill and no one is disputing or contesting this at all.

The Truth About Chocolates

Chocolates are superfoods. These dark chocolates that are just rich, sweet and delicious are also packed with healthy chemicals such as flavonoids and theobromine. You must reap the full benefits from this wonder food by eating small amounts of the stuff. The truth is that chocolates keep your heart healthy and reduce the risk of heart attacks or strokes according to the journal BMJ in 2012. Chocolates are also not fattening and actually it was found that those who ate chocolates regularly tended to be slimmer than those that did not. The 2012 study from the journal Archives of Internal Medicine confirmed that regular eaters of chocolates had a lower BMI than the others.

Rice Eating and Obesity

The journal Food and Nutrition Sciences found that those who ate rice daily were more likely to have sufficient levels of magnesium, potassium and other nutrients and they also tended to eat less saturated fat and lesser added sugars. They also consumed more vegetables, iron and fiber according to the 2009 Journal of the American Dietetic Association. As far as the link between rice and diabetes is concerned one can safely ignore that since the incidence of diabetes among the prolific rice eaters of Asia is low.

Pasta has Poor Food Value

It may come as a surprise to those who believed that eating pasta is not good for the health. Some of the health benefits of pasta include

  • It is rich in Vitamin A and promotes healthy vision

  • Eating pasta is good for your skin.

  • It is rich in folic acid and may reduce your hair fall problem besides helping skin care.

  • With its high potassium content it helps reduce the high cholesterol and prevent heart disease.

Truth about Bread, Butter and Ice Cream

The myths about bread, butter and ice cream are also just that, myths. One should eat whole grain wheat bread that has more minerals, vitamins and fiber in order to lose more visceral fat. If you are worried about your health you will be better off if you did not eliminate butter from your diet since butter is rich in Vitamin A and has antioxidants besides being a great source in Vitamins K and E and the vital mineral Selenium. It also has great anti-cancer properties and protects you against tooth decay. Ice cream, similarly, is rich in energy and a good source of vitamins and minerals.

There are several myths about rice, chocolates, bread, butter and ice cream. The truth is that these are all good food products with benefits. One must eat them in moderation.
